Easter is the cutest holiday in my opinion! With all of the cute decorations, like little Easter baskets, Easter bunnies, carrots, birds, Easter eggs, and pastel colours – I can’t help but be happy when I think of Easter. Plus! It means winter is coming to an end and spring is coming! So, to get in the baking spirit for your Easter celebration, let’s go over some Easter Treats! Delicious Dessert Ideas for the Holiday!
EASTER SYMBOLS
With every holiday comes new symbols and motifs. We have Santa Claus and reindeer for Christmas, hearts for Valentine’s Day, leprechauns and shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day, and so on.
When it comes to Easter, there’s an abundance of symbols. There are the famous Easter eggs, bunnies, crosses, chicks, Easter baskets, lilies, hot cross buns, lambs, butterflies, and much more! There are many symbols to inspire your Easter dessert ideas! Each with its own meaning and significance to Easter.
Marketing teams and product developers love to take advantage of these symbols for every holiday. This is great because with every holiday, comes new products to try out! My personal favourite is the new (or not-so-new) candy and chocolate that is released for each holiday.
For Easter, there are Cadbury Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs (my fave!), and Marshmallow Peeps. Then you have the bunny-shaped or egg-shaped chocolate, or many companies make their everyday products “Easter-themed”!
All of these goodies are perfect for you to use for your own desserts at home!
EASTER BAKING IDEAS
While we shop for Easter goodies, we can try to think of how we can incorporate them into our Easter baking and favourite dessert recipes. Here are some Easter baking ideas you can try!
MINI EGG BROWNIES
Find your favourite brownie recipe and add some chopped-up mini eggs to the brownie batter. Or top it with some mini eggs instead (or do both!). It’s THAT easy. And brownies are probably one of the easiest desserts to make!
You can even buy some Easter-themed cookie cutters and use them to cut out different shapes, like easter eggs and bunnies 🙂
EASTER-THEMED CUPCAKES
I love how far sprinkles have come. We have so much variety now, with different shapes, themes, and medleys! It’s not just the typical jimmies that we’re used to (jimmies are those mini cylindrical sprinkles that you can find in most grocery stores and bakeries).
Sprinkles are the perfect decoration for any dessert. They add fun colours to anything that needs an extra “oomph”!
Our friends at Twinkle Baker Decor Canada were so kind to send some Easter-themed goodies for us to try!
They sent some food colour, sparkle dust, wafer daisies, and decorating candy for my Easter desserts!
Watch how we used these goodies on some Easter cupcakes and Easter cakesicles!
To make cakesicles, we crumbled some baked cupcakes and combined them with a little bit of buttercream (just like you do when you make cake pops).
With a cakesicle silicone mould, add some melted chocolate or candy melts to fully cover each cavity, insert the sticks, and refrigerate until set. Add the cupcake and buttercream mixture, and using a small spoon top with more melted chocolate.
Refrigerate again until set and carefully remove the cakesicles from the mould. Decorate as you wish with some Easter-themed decorations!
We demonstrate how to make cakesicles in the Instagram reel below!
EASTER CAKE decorating ideas
The Easter decorating candy from Twinkle Baker Decor Canada would look great on cakes too! You can pipe some Easter-coloured rosettes on top of the cake and add some sprinkles and mini eggs – don’t you think that would look super cute on a pastel-coloured cake?! Maybe add some peeps too!
How cute is this Easter bunny cake?! With a few piping techniques, you can achieve this look too! We have our complete guide to drip cakes to help you with that white chocolate drip, and you can use a bunny head cookie cutter to make a light impression on the cake to use as a stencil, then pipe some designs on the inside with a pastry bag and piping tip!
While you can decorate a basic round, square, or sheet cake with Easter embellishments, there are also some Easter-shaped cake pans (like this bunny cake pan from Wilton).
Instead of having to carve a cake into shape, you can bake it in the shape you want! Then have some decorating fun with the family 🙂
Edit: We loved this cake so much that we made our own version of this Easter Bunny cake!
DIY EASTER COOKIE DECORATING KITS
We love our DIY Cooke Decorating kits here at Delish by Mich! Check out our full post on DIY Cookie Kits for Holidays (we have our yummy sugar cookie recipe there too!).
You can find a lot of cookie cutters for every holiday. Sometimes I’ll even find new cookie cutters that I didn’t find the year before (or the year before that!). And cookie cutters aren’t only for cookies! You can use them for brownies, chocolate, fondant, and more.
For our clients, we love to make new DIY cookie decorating kits for each holiday as a fun interactive activity for the kids. For Easter, we made this DIY cookie kit with cookies in the shape of Easter baskets, eggs, bunnies, and chicks. Then we included some assorted sprinkles and royal icing.
DIY Cookie Decorating kits are a great creative outlet for the little humans, and it’s even better that they can enjoy this sweet treat after they’re done decorating (probably their favourite part of the activity). They’ll have so much fun decorating and eating their Easter cookies 🙂
NO-BAKE EASTER DESSERTS
Not quite the baker? That’s totally okay! We have some easy no-bake desserts that you can easily whip up!
EASTER CHOCOLATE BARK
Easter chocolate bark is so easy to make and you can be as creative as you like. You can use any type of chocolate you like, and add any toppings and snacks that you like!
Follow these steps to make your own chocolate bark:
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper
- Carefully melt some chocolate (using a double boiler or slowly in the microwave at half power)
- Spread the chocolate in the prepared sheet pan using a spoon or spatula
- If you’re using more than one type of chocolate, use a toothpick or butter knife to make a swirl pattern
- Add all of your toppings and decorations, like mini eggs or other candy and sprinkles
- Refrigerate for at least an hour
- Break the chocolate into pieces using the back of the spoon or a knife
Then enjoy your yummy chocolate easter treat!
EASTER SNACK MIX
To make an Easter snack mix, think of making a kind of trail mix. You don’t need any kind of recipe, and you can just add any type of snack that you like! Combine your favourite snacks and Easter candy and you’re good to go!
Add some popcorn, Cadbury mini eggs, Cadbury creme eggs, pretzel sticks, and some more chocolate then drizzle some colourful candy melts all over for a quick and easy sweet treat!
Other yummy options may be some Chex cereal, m&m’s, mini marshmallows, sprinkles, nuts, Cheerios, cookies, yogurt-covered pretzels, or anything really! The options are endless! Just mix and enjoy 🙂
CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES
These are not your typical chocolate-covered strawberries! These strawberries are actually carrots! Well, not really 😉
Buy some orange-coloured white chocolate (or colour some chocolate with an OIL-BASED food colouring). Wash some strawberries thoroughly and make sure they’re completely dry before dipping them in the chocolate
Drizzle with more orange chocolate and there you have it – a carrot! Cute right?!
MARSHMALLOW PEEP RICE KRISPIES
Are you a fan of Rice Krispie squares?? You can add an Easter twist to this classic treat with Marshmallow peeps! The outcome is so fun and colourful. Check out How to Make Cereal Treats and how they made this yummy Easter treat!
Bring up the Easter theme a notch and buy an Easter-shaped cake pan or silicone mould and make a giant Easter bunny Rice Krispie treat! OR maybe a giant Easter egg Rice Krispie treat! Whatever your belly…I mean heart desires!
There are a wide variety of desserts in general. There are so many different desserts and sweets to enjoy, with new flavours and methods to the madness! You can easily find tons of Easter baking ingredients and supplies that will help you get into the Easter spirit 🙂
