Christmas is just around the corner! I don’t know about you, but I’m already thinking of dinner and dessert ideas for Christmas! Over the years, I’ve made different Christmas cake designs, hot cocoa bombs, cupcakes, and French macarons. It’s fun to get creative with different types of desserts, cake flavours and designs!
a SNOWMAN CAKE for the season

The very first cake I made for Christmas was this snowman cake. It was years ago, so I don’t remember the flavour, but I just started working with fondant. It was a fondant-covered cake, with some snowflakes (made with easy-to-use plunger cutters), and a handmade snowman on top!
RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER CAKE

Another year, I made a Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer cake. This was a chocolate hazelnut cake. Check out my delicious chocolate cake recipe below! I add Nutella to the buttercream to make it chocolate hazelnut, and I also add roasted hazelnuts in between the cake layers. Soooo yummy!
I made his ears, nose, eyes and antlers from fondant, as well as some Christmas berries. To get the shape of the antlers, you can print out a stencil to use. Cut it out and I let those decorations dry for a few days ahead of time. Once I baked the chocolate cake, I assembled it with chocolate hazelnut buttercream and hazelnuts. I added the fondant decorations and piped rosettes around it. It’s a fairly easy cake design to make for Christmas!
THE CUTEST GRINCH CAKE DESIGN

A few years ago, Faultline cakes were all the rage! Of course, I wanted to try this new cake technique myself! I decided to try this cake design and have a giveaway on Instagram. At this time, I was also obsessed with the latest animated rendition of Dr Seuss’ The Grinch. So, I decided to print off an edible image of the Grinch and wrap it around the cake, and add the faultline design over the image in red buttercream. I made some little gifts out of fondant and added some sprinkles. Oh! I can’t forget an image of little Max <3 I’m still obsessed with this cake, a few years later!
holiday CLASSICS ON CUPCAKES

My family has always supported my business, and one year we celebrated Christmas at my cousin’s house. She wanted to do something different and we decided on cupcakes, but we wanted to add some images of classic Christmas movies and characters. To keep it easy and simple, I printed off smaller edible images that will fit on cupcakes.
To add edible images on cupcakes, you can apply them on fondant first with shortening, then let it dry. Or, you can pipe the cupcake with buttercream and flatten the buttercream with a warm palette knife. Afterwards, I added some Christmas-themed sprinkles around the image to add some fun Christmas colours 🙂
EASY CHRISTMAS TREE CUPCAKES

These Christmas tree cupcakes are properly the easiest dessert on this list! I made these cupcakes with the chocolate cake recipe I mentioned before. I made a vibrant green buttercream frosting using Americolor food colouring. You can use any gel food colouring to get that bright colour. Here’s a useful tip when adding colour to your buttercream frosting: mix in the food colouring, then wait about 30 minutes. You can also whip the buttercream to incorporate air into it, and this will also brighten the colour. This tip will reduce the amount of food colouring you use, and avoid a bitter taste from it.
I made some little fondant stars with another plunger cutter for the top of the tree, then piped the cupcakes into a tree shape with a star tip, and added sprinkles from Sweetapolita (she has the cutest sprinkle medleys!). Decorate these Christmas tree cupcakes with me!
CHRISTMAS-THEMED FRENCH MACARONS

French macarons are a favourite in my family, so I take advantage every time I have a chance to make them! For a few Christmas celebrations, I made Christmas-themed macarons. Now, French macarons are definitely hard to master – I don’t even think I’ve mastered them yet! But, the best part about French macarons is they’re still delicious if you mess up the recipe!
One year, I mixed and matched red and green macaron shells. Another year, I made red velvet macarons, with a cream cheese filling. You can really get creative with some designs on macarons; add some Christmas sprinkles, or cut some shapes out of fondant with little Christmas cookie cutters.
LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST – HOT COCOA BOMBS!

Back in the wonderful year 2020, hot cocoa bombs brought some magic into our lives as we worried about Coronavirus. They became so popular and I definitely had some fun creating different flavours! From the classic hot chocolate to a “hint of mint – they’re an easy Christmas dessert for the whole family to enjoy! This version of hot chocolate is so rich, and it’s fun the see the hot chocolate “bomb” explode in your cup! Make some hot cocoa bombs with me over here:
