Looking for a sweet gift for your valentine or loved one? Really, any dessert can be transformed into a valentines day dessert, don’t you think? But we have some easy and fun dessert ideas for Valentine’s day that everyone can enjoy! Not to mention they’ll be super fun to make, whether you want a cute date idea for you and your valentine or a fun activity for the little valentines!
CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES
A classic Valentine’s Day treat! I sure have enjoyed this deliciousness on more than one occasion 🙂 While they’re great on their own, there’s something about this combination that is just so heavenly. And it’s so easy to make!
All you need to do is wash the strawberries thoroughly, and ensure they are completely dry. Carefully and slowly melt the chocolate (without getting any water in it). Then dip them and allow them to set on parchment paper. Decorate as you wish with sprinkles or chocolate drizzle, or leave it as is and enjoy!
Don’t limit yourself to the type of chocolate you use either! You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, or maybe even more than one type. That’s the beauty of it, this dessert idea tastes great with any kind of chocolate!
And I personally don’t feel too guilty enjoying these since I’m technically eating fruits 🙂 Use dark chocolate and it’s an even better excuse!
CHOCOLATE BROWNIES
Chocolate brownies are such an easy valentines day treat to make! You can make brownies with only a few ingredients, and it’s a really simple dessert to make on your own.
The best way to enjoy them is to warm them up and add a scoop of french vanilla ice cream, don’t you think??? It’s something I tend to crave more than I like to admit! Hahaha! Or maybe add some whipped cream instead of ice cream…OR BOTH!! Yum!
You can get really creative with this dessert idea, because once the brownies are baked, you can add various toppings, like chocolate chips and fun sprinkles 🙂
Find your favourite brownie recipe and you can actually use a heart cookie cutter to make them Valentine’s Day themed! Easy right?
You can even have fun customizing them by adding ingredients into the brownie batter, like nuts, skor bits, caramel drizzle, or whatever your heart desires!
I’m obsessed with Nutella, so I enjoy adding Nutella and hazelnuts to my brownies. I’ll share that recipe in another post!
RED VELVET CUPCAKES
We all know red is the colour of love, right? So red velvet cupcakes are the perfect addition to a romantic Valentine’s Day. Check out our Red Velvet cake and cupcakes recipe. It’s one of our most popular flavours, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy it! And this recipe is so easy to make!
Top with some love-themed sprinkles and you have your Valentines Day cupcakes! Or should you decide to make a valentines day cake instead, use the same red velvet recipe (or a handy cake mix from the store if baking isn’t your forte).
Our red velvet cake recipe includes a delightful cream cheese frosting recipe to decorate your valentines day cake or cupcakes.
To decorate the cake, you’ll need some extra supplies. You can find the cake-decorating supplies you’ll need in our post for new cake decorators, where we have a list tools you need to decorate cakes.
You can use a heart cookie cutter to cut out fondant, add some valentines day sprinkles, and maybe add some chocolate truffles on top. The cake is your blank canvas!

surprise hEART CUPCAKES
This idea is sure to impress, and it’s actually easier than it looks! Start with baking a cake (preferably a sheet cake), and cut out several hearts using a cookie cutter. These hearts should be small enough to fit in a cupcake. Prepare a cupcake pan and add some cupcake batter about halfway into the cupcake liners, add the cut-out hearts, and finish with more cupcake batter. After the cupcakes are baked, you’ll be able to see the hearts once you cut into the cupcake! @sweetjosiebakes demonstrates this beautifully! It’s like “cupcake-ception”!
OVEN-BAKED DONUTS
Our post on oven-baked donuts includes a delicious and easy donut recipe that you can make at home! These donuts only need 10 minutes to bake and as soon as they’ve cooled down, decorate them with some white chocolate or candy melts!
In this reel, we used Mercken’s White Chocolate Molding Wafers from Bulk Barn and used sprinkles from Sweetapolita to decorate!
DIY COOKIE decorating KITS
DIY Cookie decorating kits are the perfect creative activity for the kids and are easy for you to put together. All you need is some valentine’s day themed cookie cutters (like hearts, x’s and o’s, and lips), sprinkles, and icing. Gather these together in a treat box and gift them to the kids as a fun activity.
You’ll enjoy seeing their creative minds at play, and they’ll get to enjoy their creations! Take a look at our post about DIY cookie kits for holidays, where we shared our simple sugar cookie recipe and royal icing recipe!
Feel free to change it up a bit and make chocolate chip cookies instead! Mmmm chocolate chip cookie dough 🙂
DESSERT CHARCUTERIE BOARD
This sweet play on the classic charcuterie board is so fun and colourful! Treat yourselves to your favourites chocolates and candy, maybe add some baked goods, and assemble on a pretty charcuterie board.
It’s super quick and easy to put together, you can enjoy these sweet treats while cozying up on the couch with your love, or enjoying wine and movies with your gal pals.
It’s the perfect option if you don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen! Take a look at Strawberry Blondie Kitchen’s take on this dessert charcuterie board!
HEART-SHAPED SMASH BOXES
Making these smash boxes (or pinata cakes) take a little practice, but my one tip is to ensure the edges of the heart are well coated since the edges are most likely to break when you’re removing them from the mold.
BUT! Once you successfully make the chocolate heart smash box, add whatever sweets you wish! Then enjoy breaking into it! It’s actually satisfying!
Follow these steps to make a smash box/pinata cake:
- Slowly melt chocolate (microwave at half power in 10-20s increments) in a microwave-safe bowl. Or melt in a double boiler. Do not get any water in the chocolate.
- Fill the silicone mold, making sure the entire mold is covered in chocolate.
- Dump out the excess chocolate onto a sheet of parchment paper.
- Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes.
- Add a second layer of melted chocolate (or on the edges of the mold alone).
- Refrigerate for another 10 minutes.
- Carefully remove the smash box from the silicone mold.
- Fill it with as many sweets and treats as you can, and flip it onto a cake board.
- Smash with anything you have available (like a mini wooden mallet, if available, or spoon), and enjoy!
HEART-SHAPED HOT COCOA BOMBS
Like smash boxes, making these heart-shaped hot cocoa bombs can take some practice, but they’re so cute and fun to make! Use similar steps when making the smash boxes, ensuring the edges of the mold are well-coated.
You’ll need 2 hearts per cocoa bomb, so you can fill one with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. Microwave a small plate for 30 seconds (please be very careful removing it from the microwave). Take the unfilled heart, place it on the microwaved plate for a few seconds to melt the edges, and “glue” to the filled heart to seal it.
Decorate however you like, maybe with more chocolate drizzle and sprinkles, and pour warm milk over the hot cocoa bomb for a warm treat 🙂 We made this reel to show you how it all comes together!
HEART-SHAPED ANYTHING!
Rice Krispies squares, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, donuts, anything you can cut into a heart! The best way to celebrate the day of love is to fill it with the symbol of love! With a few heart-shaped cookie cutters, you can be creative with any of your favourite treats 🙂 Cookie cutters that are lip-shaped are great as well!
As we should celebrate love every day and make sure our loved ones know just how much we love them, Valentine’s Day is the perfect reason to make them feel special.
Happy love day!
